Turn your Raspberry Pi into a radio controller for RC vehicles

Brandon's Thoughts

Ever since I tried turning the Raspberry Pi into an FM transmitter, I had wondered if it would be possible to make it drive a radio-controlled car. It turns out that it is! With no modifications to your Pi, you can be driving around a toy-grade RC car iFe, and I’ve read about a fewotherones online that should work as well. Any RC toy that works at a frequency in the range of 1-250 MHz should be controllable by the Pi once you figure out the command signals.

I’m going to talk a little bit about how RC cars work, how the code and hardware works on the Pi, and about RC controls in general. If you just want to start driving around, you can jump to the end.

DIY Drone with Arduino

androDrone 🙂

AB-Art Ben

While I am still waiting for the pieces for my alarm clock to arrive, I’m continuing to develop my long-term project that I am going to present on this article.

Last summer I decided to build myself a drone : a quadcopter to be precise. My main goal is to create my own flight controller with an arduino card. Here is what it looks like now :

General view of the drone General view of the drone

I didn’t want to spent much time choosing the motors or propellers so I bought a kit on Hobbyking with the frame, the motors and ESC (motor controllers) so I knew that there would be no dimension problem.

As long as electronics components are concerned, I chose to have a cheap alternate of the Arduino Uno (I know shame on me), and the MPU9150 as “attitude sensor”. I already had a Remote Controller (RX/TX).

The MPU9150 is 9…

Carputer with Raspberry Pi

Nice project 🙂 I ll try it

AB-Art Ben

Yet another project !

I was tired of listening to the local radio on my car, I wanted my own music. So in that case you have 2 possibilities: either you buy an other system or you build yourself a super carputer ! Needless to say that I chose the second option.

In this article I am going to describe the different choices I made to build it, but this is not going to be step by step tutorial to build yours.
